Chalk in the shape of a guitar pick. This is by far the best option I've found for marking adjustments on garments in progress, tracing patterns, or drafting onto raw fabric. These are bigger than other chalks. And you sharpen all the edges, so every edge can be used to mark. This is clay chalk; easily brushes off. If you've ever cut fabric around tissue-paper patterns, you know it's awful. I find it easier to trace the pattern and cut. Or way better: trace and then check your size and make easy adjustments on the fabric before you cut. This is the same chalk some bespoke tailors use to hand-draft patterns onto wool for cutting suits, etc.
Buy this chalk. You never knew how easy it was to mark on fabric and draft patterns.

This is really great marking chalk, but the last one I ordered from amazon arrived in several pieces. therefore, I'd recommend looking for it locally instead of at amazon. also, Jo-Ann has comparable chalk for a few bucks cheaper (don't remember the brand. it's not quite as nice, as it's square, but a square is better than a broken chunk of a triangle).
I guess, if you're buying a bunch of chalk, it might be alright. amazon shipped mine in a flat cardboard envelope. I doubt their standard airbag in a box would've kept it safe, either, though.

After I bought it on Amazon I was on Joann fabric's website and saw it for much cheaper! It was only $1.99 and I bought it for $6.49! Remember to check around before thinking Amazon always has the cheapest prices. Most of the time they do.

I've been doing machine embroidery for about 5 years, and just purchased my first Brother machine (which I absolutely adore). Before that, I have 2 other machines, and I used card readers/writers by Amazing Box. My first one broke. The second one still works. But, these Amazing Box products are amazingly flimsy, light and cheap. The software barely works with any operating system, and trying to used the things was always on a hope and a prayer.
Then, because I want everything to be just perfect with my new and expensive Brother machine, I bought the PED Basic box with blank card media. I plugged it into my USB, loaded the software, and transferred a design from my computer to the card without having to even look at any instructions. The card then went into my machine, the machine picked out the design, and everything stitched flawlessly.

Not much to say about this... just that it works well for transferring embroidery files from your computer to the data card. Easy to use, basic program. Lets you do minor resizing of files, and you can look at a preview of what the design will look like once stitched.
I just wish that you could do more with this program, as far as minor edits, especially for the high cost... but I have another program for that now.
If you have Windows Vista, go to the Brother website to download a different driver for the card reader - don't use the included disc.

If you have windows Vista, make sure you download the software directly from the Brother's Website. It only takes a couple of minutes to download the software. The program is easy to use and I was able to find a lot of free embroidery designs to use with my SE350. The software reads PES files. You can google for free pes format embroidery designs and tons of links will pop up.

Before buying this machine I used an older model of Brother Brand. When the Brother broke down I still wanted something reasonably basic but with a few more capabilities than the Brother had been able to do. I was in no way disappointed in the way this machine stitches and runs. The DVD that comes with it is very well done and gave lot's of good information and ideas. The only things about this machine that might take some getting used to is that the power cord and foot control are seperate whereas on my Brother machine they were all connected in one cord and the foot control is less sensitive than the Brother had ben and has some delays if I take my foot off it and then try to make it go again immediately. Those are not bad things but just something that I will have to get used to. Overall it is a very easy machine to use and it truly stitches beautifully and much better than my older machine.
